In Australia, to become an electrician, you will need to complete an Australian apprenticeship which last for 4 years and combines in-class training (a Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician) and workplace experience. You will be working at a company alongside an experienced electrician and earning money and you will also have to attend classes.

You will need to find an employer and enter a contract with them and Apprenticeships Australia.

After successfully completing your apprenticeship and your Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician you can then contact the relevant Electrical board for your state and apply for a licence.

Electricians usually earn between $40 to $75 an hour. More senior electricians can earn more. Electrical and telecommunications workers can earn up to $1,200 per week.
