ABOUT THE COURSE

The Instrumentation Refresher is for Electricians and Electrical Engineers who desire to refresh their Electrical and Instrumentation skills and work in the Process Industry such as Mining, Oil and Gas Manufacturing, Food Industry etc.

This Instrumentation Refresher course gives an in depth understanding of Calibration and Commissioning of Pressure, Level, Density, Flow and Temperature Transmitters. It allows you to connect transmitters to PLC and program a sequence to control them according to the logic in the Ladder diagram.

Future Pathways include UEE31211 – Certificate III in Instrumentation and Control OR UEE50211 – Diploma of Electrical and Instrumentation

On completion of this course, you will receive a Certificate of Competence in Instrumentation.

NB : This instrumentation course requires certain physical competencies that a wheelchair user or someone with significant physical disabilities simply may not be able to fulfill so please check with admin before enrolment.

The course duration will vary with experience.

You will need to bring :

  • A wired headset or headphones
  • A notepad
  • A pen

You will also need to have an email address, a laptop and a reliable internet connection in order to complete the online theory part of the course.

Enclosed footwear must be worn at all times when you are on the premises.

Theory: 50% of the course, can be completed online from home
Practical: 50% of the course, to be completed in the class for hands on experience with the equipment

 

The course is organized into the following themes : Instrumentation Theory lectures | Electrical Instrumentation Assessments | Internet research | Observation | Face to face | Instrumentation and Control Practical tasks | Group work | Activities in a simulated work environment (as per Training Package Requirements)

Each student’s achievement of each Instrumentation unit of competency within the qualification is assessed by their completion of written, practical tests, assignments and the observation of the competency in practical projects, in varying contexts on a number of occasions.

Use instrumentation drawings, specification, standards and equipment manuals
Solve problems in pressure measurement components and systems
Solve problems in density/level measurement components and systems
Solve problems in flow measurement components and systems
Solve problems in temperature measurement components and systems
Implement and monitor energy sector environmental and sustainable policies and procedures
Develop, enter and verity discrete control programs for programmable controllers
Develop, enter and verify word and analog control programs for programmable logic controllers
